Hi Guys, 'the shaken Kiwi' from Christchurch, New Zealand here and just joined up with this site.

To be honest i'm just recovering from the shock of discovering that Lynyrd Skynyrd is not only still around but also still touring and it would seem still producing new music- what a blow out!. I haven't heard anything of the band for years, They were my equal favourite band with Grand Funk Railroad ( who i've also just discovered is still touring) and Led Zepplin.

I was of the understanding that all or most of L.S got taken out in a plane crash many years ago but obviously not, and obviously they have been quite podigous in out putting new recordings. I still play their music just about everyday ( well what i have of it). If you want to hear their music here in New Zealand you will extremely rarely here it on radio- only on the 2 classic hits stations we have in the country and even then the only 2 tracks you will ever here is Freebird live version & Sweet Home- nothing else.

Don't suppose there will ever be any possibility that LS will ever do another tour in New Zealand ( even if it's only a one nighter) or Australia- maybe someone close to the band or it's management could ask them ?
Gues i will have to save up my sheckles and travel over to the States to see them cos now i Know they're still alive and kicking i'm detrmined to see them live before i shuffle off this mortal coil or one of these cursed earthquake aftershocks gets me.
Cheers to all & Keep the Faith

I also live in New Zealand and would love it if Lynyrd Skynyrd came to New Zealand! I know it would be a sell out as the band is so popular here. Free Bird got to number two on The Rock 1000 countdown!!

As a kiwi living in Oz and having been a Skynyrd fan since 74 when as a thirteen year old I purchased Second Helping having never heard any of their music on the radio I instantly fell in love with their music and have always listened to those 4 albums I have pre 77. Yes Ronnie,Steve & Cassie from the band & others died in the plane crash the rest reformed in 87 for a reunion tour & have been recording since then. Over the years other band members have also died and unfortunately only Gary Rossington is the only original member still in the band, but Ronnie's younger brother Johnny is lead singer & Ricky Medlock who played in their early sessions is also back in the Band. I fulfilled my dream & traveled to New York to see them this year and it was well worth it, one of the best concerts I've ever been to, as they really rocked. I did not know that they toured NZ before But I pray that they may tour down under one day. They have done a Simple Man Cruise for a number of years which I would love to be able to go on. If enough of us fans keep pushing for them to tour here we can only hope they will do so
