Eminem has one. Jimmy Buffet has one. Elvis Presely has one. (One of my personal favorites) Frank Sinatra has one. (Another favorite) B.B. King has one.
Pearl Jam has had one.
Is there anything we can do to try and get LYNYRD SKYNYRD to have their own XM/Sirius Radio Station? It would definitely open up people who don't know the band to get into the greatest group to ever walk the face of the earth.
Who's with me?!
OK...Disclaimer - this is all in a pure fun - interesting kind of mind set. It's just kind of a post to kind of lighten up the day (so please keep this in mind when responding!) ;o)
I got to thinking the other day it would be cool to have Skynyrd make a cover cd(s) - (double cd set). It'd be interesting to see the songs and groups you'd love to hear Skynyrd cover (since Skynyrd does everything better than the originals ;-) ). Not saying it would happen, just kind of a cool way to see what everyone would enjoy seeing. Again, all in PURE FUN.
So with no further ado, here's what I think would be cool to hear:
1) Tim McGraw - "My Little Girl"
2) Charlie Daniels - "What this World Needs (Is a Few More Rednecks)"
3) Waylon Jennings - "Just to Satisfy You" [Johnny/Rickey Duet]
4) Waylon Jennings - "I've Always Been Crazy"
5) Merle Haggard - "I Take A Lot of Pride In What I Am" [Ronnie was buried to this song]
6) Gretchen Wilson - "Politically Uncorrect" [Johnny/Charlie Daniels Duet]
7) Aaron Lewis - "Country Boy" [Johnny/Aaron Lewis Duet]
8) Alabama - "When It All Goes South"
9) Alan Jackson - "If Jesus Walked the World Today" [Johnny/Alan Jackson Duet]
10) Brad Paisley - "Start A Band"
11) Seven Mary Three - "Made To Be Broken"
12) Creed - "Inside Us All" [Mark Tremonti guest starring on Guitar] (feat. Travis Tritt)
13) Breaking Point - "All Messed Up" [feat. Chester Bennington (Linkin Park)] - One of my favorite love songs
14) Michael Tolcher - "Mission Responsible" [feat. Michael Tolcher]
15) downhere - "A Better Way"
16) Keith Elgin Band - "For Your Name" [feat. Keith Elgin and Emily Elgin]
17) Allman Brothers Band - "One Way Out"
18) Molly Hatchet - "Mississippi Moon Dog" [with Montgomery Gentry]
19) The Outlaws - "South Street" (Johnny/Hughie Thomasson Duet (meaning lift Hughie's voice off tapes like they did with "Travelin' " kind of like paying a tribute to Hughie)]
20) Johnny Cash - "Big River" [feat. Merle Haggard]
21) Hank Williams Sr. - "Settin' The Woods of Fire" [Johnny/Bocephus Duet]
22) Black Label Society - "The Last Goodbye" [feat. Zakk Wylde] (would be cool to see Peter Keys jammin' the piano on this song and see Gary take lead on the solo - niiiiiiice)]
23) Ozzy Osbourne - "No More Tears"
They were angry because I told them to throw a football elsewhere than in the middle of the neighborhood street where everyone's cars were. They were using the hard football and were hitting cars left and right. I told them I didn't want my 2 week old car hit, and they told me it wouldn't hit it. However when I hopped in my car, it got hit. No dents, but still. I told them to go elsewhere and they gave me lip. A week later they did it again. I threatened to call the authorities if it happened again. Well - it was all quiet for over 2 months, then 2 nights ago, out of nowhere they bombard it. Egg EVERYWHERE. I didn't know about it until I headed out for lunch at 2:30 - on a 95 degree day. I had to clean it up. Took 3 hours. Still not sure if it's all gone. Reported it to the police.
What do you guys suggest?
I love our line up now, don't get me wrong (still miss hearing Billy's piano playing - and nothing against Peter, but to me, Powell just can't be "replaced." Keys does a good job and fits in great, but I miss Billy's playing.
Anyway, the point of this post is, what do you guys think of potentially putting the old band together for a few new songs on the new cd that is rumored to come out? It wouldn't have to be the whole cd, but maybe about 5 songs on the 2nd cd (like the deluxe one they had last time)? The current group would be the one's who tour, this would kind of be like an added bonus :o).
The lineup could be like this:
Johnny Van Zant - Lead Vocals
Gary Rossington - Lead/Rhythm Guitar
Ed King - Lead Guitar
Randall Hall - Guitar*
Bob Burns - Drums/Percussion**
Peter Keys - Piano/Keyboards
Larry Jundstrom - Bass
* = I plugged in Randall since Allen was good friends with Randall and Hall was a member of the group before. Larry, since he was with the founding group, would be cool to borrow from 38 Special for a few songs. I'm sure Donnie and Don would have no issue with that. If Larry turns it down, Ed King or Robert Kearns could play bass, with Gary, Randall, and Rickey on guitars.
I don't know if he does, but it would be cool if Billy had a son, and if he played keyboards and if Leon's son Lee, played bass. Again, it wouldn't be the touring band, much less permanent, just kind of like a collaboration.
The reason I ask this is because it sounds intriguing. Not only that, but other bands who have been around are thinking of doing the same. One of my all time favorite bands, heavy metal band ANTHRAX has already reunited with all their lead singer Joey Belladonna recently and made him a permanent member of the band again. He left in 1990 and created bands like Helmet and one other (name slips my mind right now), so their line up is Joey Belladonna, Scott Ian, Charlie Benate, Frank Bello, and Rob Caggiano again. They have a new song out, about killing zombies...lol, called "Fight 'Em Till You Can't". I've put the link to a LIVE perfomance of the reunited band performance, and the studio version below that.
Let me know what you think!
Have an AWESOME day!

When I heard John5 was collaborating with Skynyrd last album, I was EXTREMELY excited, as I've always been a huge John5 fan. (Guess it goes with being a Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie fan too)...
But I wonder, WHO would you all love to see, if it was possible, to see Skynyrd collaborate with?
For me:
1) Aaron Lewis (Lead Vocalist/Founder of the Band "STAIND" and solo artist)
[STAIND - "Eyes Wide Open" (Sept. 2011) - http://youtu.be/NyVaHOXRFiw
Aaron Lewis - "Country Boy" (feat. Charlie Daniels, George Jones, Chris Young) http://youtu.be/vsQzw_Ax8Cw ]
2) Brian "HEAD" Welch (Ex- KoRn lead guitarist, Christian music solo artist) - (I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY Reccomend reading his book "Save Me From Myself" - battling extreme drug abuse and self-mutilation to losing many people around him - just to find Christ and righting the ship. He quit KoRn, devoted himself to the Lord and is now a full-time father to his daughter. REALLY good book)
"Letter to Dimebag" - http://youtu.be/UNzfUvLbKq0
"I Am Second" documentary - A MUST see!
3) Jonathan Davis (Lead Vocalist of KoRn and solo artist)
[ Jonathan Davis - "Hey Daddy" - http://youtu.be/RGad12lEnS4
KoRn - "Blind" - http://youtu.be/SGK00Q7xx-s ]
4) An ALL-Jacksonville Collaboration - LIMP BIZKIT (Limp Bizkit - "Behind Blue Eyes"
http://youtu.be/5MSqF_rQ6Mw ] or new LB - "Gold Cobra" http://youtu.be/_i_qxQztHRI
5) Seven Mary Three
6) Michael Tolcher
7) Pat McGee
8) Travis Tritt
9) Zakk Wylde
10) Ozzy Osbourne
Any other ideas? :o)
