My husband, David, and I met in 1983 at Fort Lee, VA. He was Airborne and I was in training. On our first date he took me to a local bar where he got onstage with the band and played Freebird for me.
For our vow renewal on our 23rd anniversary, Feb. 11, 2009, Freebird was my "bridal march." That date also marks the day that our family was wholly together for the last time; our daughter passed away only 8 months later.
Then, tonight, Sept. 15, 2012, my husband and I attended my first Lynyrd Skynyrd Concert and the encore song was Freebird...we had seats Center row FF...but for this song we found ourselves on a hill to the right of the lawn seating, standing next to a tree where my husband held me while I cried listening to our song. Thank you, Lynyrd Skynyrd for saving that song for last.
