Hi folks,

I`m just wondering if any of you have been on the forum "SKYNYRD FRYNDS" I have just deleted myself from it as I`ve found it to be more of a Skynyrd BASHING forum,If its not music/history from the original band(and there is lots of history/road stories about the original band) then they don`t want to know about it.The final straw for me came when i read a thread about how Allen Collins was at one time going to sue Rickey Medlocke for plagiarism about how Freebird & Highway Song have the same musical section or some such rubbish,this was annoying enough but one of the people replying admitted that although they agreed that Freebird & Highway song were similar she had NEVER heard Highway song????
Now call me a cynic, but how do you know the 2 songs have similar arrangements if you`ve never heard one of them.I was just wondering if there are any others out there who are/were members of this forum & what there opinions are.

@ SouthernRebel,The thread i read did mention specifically Freebird & Highway Song.But my point was more about how the people on the site could agree that Freebird & Highway song do sound similar & therefore agree that some of the instrumental section (guitar solo) had been deliberatley copied.....if they had not heard Highway Song.My main point being that I cannot understand how these people can call themselves fans of the band then go around calling the current band a tribute band & now the real deal, but as you said yourself.each to there own.....but i think My Own Sunshine summed it up when they said.......

Skynyrd has and always will be here to stay. Screw the doubters.

what lynyrd skynyrd songs do you mostly hear on the radio and be honest?

theres nothing wrong with people loving and enjoying the music made by the old lineups.

i dont think theres any place johnny van zant or gary rossington said that they are GREATER AND BETTER THAN THE OLD LINEUPS AND MAKE BETTER MUSIC THEN THEM .

And who knows its possible Al Collins did make a comment about Blackfoot copying or trying to sound like Skynyrd?

I like highway song but now that youmentioned this i thought it was skynyrd mimik as well same as molly hatchets flirting with disaster i remember not liking mollly hatchet because it bothered me how they were like copying the void of somthing special lost being Lynyrd Skynyrd at the time even though i still loved the song.

i know robert plant had a pissy fit about david coverdale copying him? so who knows?

This Lynyrd Skynyrd thing should have just been called TEAM LYNYRD SKYNYRD because they cary on as allways with different team players without ever really having a same team of members for a certain amount of time.

As far as vocals Johns vocals are higher pitched and flatter sounding his vocals are in different tune and IMO His brother had better sound and bass in his vocal in wich he sang from his throat and more of a low talk type vocal where johnny is a rocker more kind of voice . And as far as the the music id say the closest that i ever heard to REAL OLD LINEUP STUFF is 1991 and the last rebel because on those ones excpecially 1991 that one the cylynders were all firing on ALL cylynders in a making a musical statement kind of way and guess what? i did NOT hear them songs on the radio?

Personaly i think the choice of rick medlocke hurt this band if there goal is to make NEW music AND TRY to capture that Old hell house sound.Its a fact he plays the old songs great but IMO he simply does NOT have that hell house sound and his contributions are 80s flash show off Not the hard core telling it from the simple soul that Skynyrd songs of past are trademarked for . Because between his 80s type style of flash and the direction his input it seems sends themthey are NOT Ever going to capture THAT MAJIC of Ron and Al and Leon and Gary and Bob and Ed or just Al and Gary Leon Ron Artimus Or With Steve Gaines . Rons voice and lineups were Top jimmy something special and HIS vision of telling it was so down earth pure and simple and he could tell it through his singing while staying pitched to HIS perfect telling Key like he is sitting next ya around a campfire saying hey man this is how i feel about it through song and the other band members through there instruments could feel it too and they blended Where as the newer songs seem like they try TOO HARD TOO FAST ANDTELLING FEEL OF THAT OUTPUT CARRY OVER OF FEELING except Thegary Rossington sound and i really think its Rick Medlockes scewing it all up! Because 1991 and last rebel you can hear that hell house type out put carry over of saying something telling it like the older lineups . Where these new songs the only shread i hear of that Hell House type sound IS GARY ROSSINGTONS GUITAR SOUND !


If there goal is to have fun play skynyrd SPREAD THE GREAT WORD OF SKYNYRD its all great and good GO TEAM SKYNYRD !

But if there trying to illuminate the past They aint going to be able to ever do that with the members they have now JMO and MY EARS TELL ME THAT!....

So what im saying is The old Telling of old line ups was something VERY VERY VERY Music making special .
And you are LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY to be able to go see LYNYRD SKYNYRD today!
But Its a TEAM LYNYRD SKYNYRD and people are allowed to complain about songs or lineups of teams or players whatever much like a football or baseball team .

BUT WE ARE ALL lucky The world is lucky to have this band rolling on playing the old songs and new ones and making people happy and them selves . GO TEAM SKYNYRD !
oh and we are lucky to have money taken by fan clubs without knowing and still not getting t shirt that that money paid for hint hint.

Johnny's voice is "higher pitched and flatter"?

Johnny's voice isn't higher pitched at all. In fact, the band has to tune DOWN a half step because of the fact Johnny can't get the vocal range of Ronnie. But that doesn't mean he sucks. Far from it. Ronnie and Johnny just have slightly different styles. As I mentioned earlier, Ronnie was more blues and country. Johnny is more heavy metal/hard rock/country. He's got the voice for it too.

To say that the members don't stick around long in the new band is just confusing. Michael Cartelleone has been in since 1998 (14 years). Johnny has been in since 87 (25 years). Rickey has been in since '97 (15 years)...AND might I add, he was in BEFORE the crash, therefore, you can add that time in there. You can't blame the change in Piano, Bass. It's not Billy, Leon, or Ean's fault they were called home. It's nobody's fault. It's sad, but they're home with the father.

If you don't like the current lineup, that's your business, but don't rant on about them just because you don't like 'em
